Arash Sadeghi was transferred from Evin prison to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran after his health condition deteriorated On Saturday, December 26.

It has been over 64 days since this university student and political prisoner staged hunger strike. Mr. Sadeghi, who is sentenced to 19 years imprisonment, staged the hunger strike to protest illegal and unjust arrest of his wife. In a letter, after highlighting violation of his wife’s legal and legitimate rights, Sadeghi wrote: In this unequal battlefield, the only asset I have is my life, and I will stand to the end until I obtain my wife’s rights.”

The Iranian Resistance in a statement issued on December 23rd had warned of political prisoners currently facing death following long hunger strikes, and called on all international human rights organizations, especially the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to take urgent and effective action to save their lives. The inhumane mullahs’ regime is depriving these prisoners of their most basic rights, recognized even under the regime’s own laws.
